I would agree with your statement about the New TEstament, but as a Jew, let me remind you that The Old Testament was written thousands of years before Jesus was born. Orthodox Jews and certain fundamentalist Christians consider the Old Testament to be the explicit word of God as dictated to Moses on Mt. Sinai. The rest of us Jews and many non-Jews consider it a holy book written by religious people inspired by God. Many of the ugly bigoted attitudes of some Christians are based, according to them, on Old Testament passages. I’m certainly not blaming Jesus for the behavior of his followers.
