The term ‘junior’ is only correctly used if a child is given exactly the same name as his or her parent. Society still expects that women will give up their so-called “maiden” name for that of the husband, which would nullify the reason for having the suffix in the first place. why women don’t name their girl babies after themselves more…my theory is that we don’t have the responsibility of “carrying on the family name” so we don’t feel the same need for continuity as men.
